Prithvi Shaw unsold in IPL 2025 auction: What Ricky Ponting and Mohammad Kaif said
Young Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw remained unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. No team bid on him. Prithvi was once a part of Delhi Capitals and was considered one of the most talented young cricketers in India. Some even called him the next Sachin Tendulkar. But due to poor performance in recent years, he is now out of the world’s biggest cricket league.
Ricky Ponting, who coached Prithvi in Delhi Capitals and is now the head coach of Punjab Kings, expressed grief over the news. Ponting said, “It is disappointing. Prithvi is one of the most talented players I have worked with. Unfortunately, he remained unsold and no team picked him even in the quick rounds. Former Delhi Capitals assistant coach Mohammad Kaif also shared his views. He said that Prithvi had a lot of potential, but he could not live up to the expectations.
Kaif said, “Prithvi is a very good player in the powerplay. He once hit six fours in a single over against Shivam Mavi. Delhi Capitals supported him a lot because we believed that he could win us matches. We often discussed whether to include him in matches or give him a break. He got many chances, but now it is disappointing that no team picked him. He should focus on domestic cricket like Sarfaraz Khan and work on his fitness and skills.”
